3 Dimensional Graffiti

The abundant abandoned buildings in Mitchell County led me to restage these neglected spaces with compositions using locally sourced lumber, paint, and found materials gathered from the site.

HAYSTACKS

Haystacks are what happens when you let Haystack happen.

As a technical assistant in a class at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts I archived material studies from the students, class demos, and personal projects into these type boxes.  A record of our two weeks is composed and compartmentalized into the antique type cases serving as a way to reflect, remember, and redistribute our collective experience.  Annie Evelyn's Altered Interactions: Experimental Furniture workshop June 25 - July 7, 2017. Stilts were made for the 4th of July Parade. Crusaders were made as warm up exercises.

to me: a warm up, an awakening, wanderlust.  Walking into unknown territory.  Meditation, memory, mistakes.  Explorative.

The totems are made in tandem to other projects as a way to further explore the potential for a dynamic form to emerge using the bandsaw as a carving tool. Free form, geometric, and painted, the resulting relics could be characterized as talismans, perhaps used for a ceremonial purpose or seen as an artifact from an imagined time and place.  Altogether, in a range of scales, the series seeks to create a compelling community of objects through which a narrative emerges as shape, color, and form converse.
